Sharing food, spreading aloha
I’ve always loved to cook. It started at an early age — spending lots of time “helping” my paternal grandmother. Cooking continued during my high school and college years, working at a family friend’s restaurant (Hanamaulu Cafe on Kauai). I worked there all through college (during weekends and breaks), but that’s where my “formal” culinary education ended.
Now living in the Bay Area and away from where I grew up, cooking has become more of a passionate hobby. It’s an outlet for me to reconnect with memories of good times back home, where food was a means for gathering with family and friends.
While I still enjoy hosting get togethers at my home, it’s become less frequent as my friends here are often busy with their lives and my immediate family live on the East Coast. So this is my way to hopefully share some of my cooking and great memories.
Couple things to note: I’m not a patient person, and as such, I don’t write a lot of commentary. Sorry. When I browse other sites, I just press the “jump to recipe,” unless there’s something really intriguing about the dish. Also, the times I post on these recipes are approximate. So factor that in if you decide to use them.
Finally, I hope you find your stomachs full, your souls happy, and your hearts spreading the aloha spirit!
